Si Hulbert - Producer & Songwriter
A multi-million selling, award winning composer and producer, Si Hulbert’s career to date has seen him work with some of the biggest names in the world including Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Jess Glynne and Dido.
His 15 million records sales and over 500 million streams include Top 10 hits in 26 countries, No.1s in 20 countries and two US Billboard No.1s with Dido & One Direction.
In addition, Si is a D&AD award winning media composer with a client list of some of the biggest and best brands and ad agencies in the world, including Yeo Valley, BBH, AMVBBDO, Heinz, Boots, Walkers/Pepsico, British Airways, Lynx/Axe.
He has also scored movies and TV shows for TV channels and production companies including the BBC, Disney, Sky, Channel 4 and ITV. He also scored and produced the lead track from the Box Office No.1 Film “Street Dance 3D”.
Born and raised in Chislehurst, Kent, Si started out playing drums in bands but production was already becoming his first love.
“I started off playing drums in some ‘questionable’ school bands, but I very quickly learnt how songs work- the arrangements, the sounds and how they all fit together like a jigsaw. This fascinated me and led me into buying my first synth at the age of 11so I could learn how to make the sounds I was hearing on the radio. I used to spend hours and hours of my free time in the school music rooms, teaching myself guitar, bass, drums and keys….”
At the age of 22, Si moved into music full time, working on scores for Disney and producing his own artist releases with singles signed to Multiply, Universal, Ministry of Sound and Gut Records.
“Being given the chance to compose and produce for Disney at such a young age was fantastic. I very quickly learnt how to translate the script writers ideas into music and energy, how to score to picture, and the total thrill of hearing my creations on commercial television. All of this whilst I was lucky enough to have my first ‘demo’ signed to Multiply Records. A record that enabled me to work with two of my biggest heroes at the time- the legendary Joni Mitchell and rapping royalty The Jungle Brothers.”
This all culminated in his becoming a major part of successful Dance act Studio B, signed to Ministry of Sound, with whom he toured the world for 3 years as a DJ and producer.
“Studio B gave me the opportunity to tour the world for 3 years, flying over 100,000 airmiles and playing to tens of thousands of clubbers in some stunning countries including South Korea, Russia and Australia…”
He also worked with Ed Sheeran, Professor Green, Boyzone, Xenomania and Sugababes for whom he produced the track ‘Girls’ which was the soundtrack to Boots’ adverts for five years as well as entering the Official Charts at No.3.
“Mark Ronson and myself were in the running for producing "Girls' - Darcus chose my production . To beat competition like that and enter the Official Charts at No.3 was an amazing feeling”
Si has written a number of songs with Ed Sheeran, and their collaboration called “Moments’ lived up to it’s name when One Direction covered the song and subsequently performed it on three of the biggest and highest grossing world tours in musical history.
“Ed is one of the nicest, most humblest guys I have ever worked with…and a musical genius to boot. The sofa stories are all true- he’s also a great houseguest! Of all the tracks Ive written with Ed- one of my favourites is an unreleased demo called ‘Undone’ - just pure indulgence!”
Since then Si has continued to work at the top of his game with Jess Glynne, Sinead Hartnett, Dyo, James Hype, Yxng Bane, Elderbrook, Tove Lo and Craig David all benefitting from his sure touch.
The recent return of, and releases by, Ivor Novello winning singer and songwriter Dido has seen Si feature on ‘Give You Up’ and the album ‘Still On My Mind’ with his writing and production skills to the fore on the chart topping releases.
